Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy.

Shockwave Therapy, or Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) to use its full title, is a revolutionary system that delivers both pressure and sound waves to the afflicted tissues and bone and expedite the rate of growth of key cells used for repair.  This is a great non-operative way to speed healing and results in a significantly improved outcome. The treatment lasts 4 minutes (so longer than an injection but shorter than surgery) and you can feel the treatment taking place.  This non-invasive method of treatment is common place in Harley street and central London and we are very fortunate to have the equipment here in Corbridge, one of the very few places to offer this treatment in the North of England.  Director Paul Hobrough is the National trainer for Shockwave therapy in the UK and also trains physicians abroad as well as Premiership football club medical teams.  It is clear that if you would like to have Shockwave therapy then you are in the most capable hands.

Why use shockwave therapy?

Physiotherapy UK is proud to offer the latest in rehabilitation technology. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a system that sends sound waves to painful areas on the body. Used by high profile professional sports bodies such as Newcastle United Football Club, the treatment is a low-pain method that can produce fantastic results from a number of injuries and conditions.

How does the treatment work?

Typically a ESWT treatment programme at Physiotherapy UK will take six sessions over six weeks. With clinical reports showing that 69% of 149 randomly selected patients reported “excellent” results (no pain), this treatment is perfect for those suffering from painful issues. ESWT can be used on a number of different areas, from the Achilles’ tendon to back and shoulder pain and everything in between.
